Netflix releases many shows each year, some of them become instant successes Lucifer and Stranger Things while there are some really good shows that never see the light of day when it comes to receiving the amount of viewers they deserves. Here is a list of five most underrated shows on Netflix which more people should watch.
After Life
After Life is a show by Ricky Gervais, the credited comedian and creator of successful shows like The Office and Derek. The show is a comedy drama about a man who loses his wife to cancer and wants to end his life, but before he does that he uses it as a superpower to live life on his own terms; without any filters.
Hollywood
Hollywood is a limited series by Netflix about the Golden age of Hollywood — a time when many aspiring actors were coming into Los Angeles to make it on the big screen. It’s another comedy drama which talks about all of the problems and hurdles that young actors face in order to make it, such as jealousy, casting couch and homophobia. The show also features fictionalised tales of the lives of famous personalities such as Rock Hudson.
The People vs Oj Simpson
The people vs Oj Simpson is the first season of the anthology series American Crime Story. It explores the famous Oj Simpson murder case where he supposedly murdered his ex-wife and her friend. The case is one of the most notorious in Hollywood and the show goes into detail of how things panned out and what happened in the end. It stars a stellar cast of the likes of Cuba Gooding Jr., John Travolta and David Schwimmer.
Fear City: New York vs The Mafia
Fear City is a three part Netflix original documentary. It explores the power dynamics of the Italian Mafia in New York till the 1970’s and how the law enforcement agencies were able to put an end to the organised crime scene of New York. The show features real footage and interviews of how the department took down one of the most powerful entities in the US. It is a perfect documentary to watch for fans of films like The Godfather Trilogy, Casino and Goodfellas.
Monty Python: Flying Circus
Monty Python was a British Comedy group from the 1970’s. Their version of comedy is observational and intellectual. The Flying Circus depicts the peculiarities of British life and contains sketches of famous philosophical figures as well as literary personas. The show is one of the funniest and most creative shows on Netflix and has been a source of inspiration for big names of comedy such as Jim Carrey, Rowan Atkinson and Robin Williams.
