Make the Most of this Staycation at Home

by Zara Hassan

Yes, you’re right, this is another one of those posts about what to do during your time in quarantine. At this point, you must have probably read tons of posts telling you to do the exact same things to keep yourself busy. But trust me, you won’t regret reading this. Before quarantine, our lives were jam-packed: going to school, work, meeting our friends, spending time with family and running errands, so we never got to do a few activities that we have always wanted to do. We never found time; we were always busy. Now we have all the time in the world to do whatever

1 Start meditating and practicing yoga regularly.

Many of us forget the importance of taking time out of our day to relieve ourselves from stress and anxiety, or in other words, to just simply relax. We often find excuses to tell ourselves that either we are too busy or that we don’t have time to meditate or do yoga. This is the time when we to stop making up excuses and begin focusing on improving our health. Starting to medidate or practicing yoga is extremely easy, all you need to do is follow along short tutorials on YouTube or Ins

2 Finally organize your clothes, shoes and jewellery!

This is something that has long been due for all of us. When was the last time you cleaned and organized all your belongings? My bet is that it was a while ago. I think it’s safe to say that we all have things that we never wear, yet we still keep them in case we need to use them in the future. Now with all this spare time on our hands, we might as well begin organizing our closet, donating clothes and shoes that we no longer use and sorting out our jewellery.

3 Make some DIY masks for both your face and hair.

What do we do after we wake up? We cleanse our face. What do we do before we go to sleep? We cleanse our face. We spend so much money on the most expensive facial and hair products hoping they will not only improve our hair and face by making them healthier but make them better and fresher. Instead of always needing to use the fanciest or the most popular product, we can create our own healthy, hair and face masks. This not only allows us to learn what we are applying to ourselves, but the benefits of them and what they do. Simple home remedies can be extremely effective and believe me when I say that creating these masks are seriously fun! You’re basically creating a small spa at your very own home.

4 Practicing your cooking and baking skills!

Yes, this is the most common and basic idea of what to do during quarantine, that to my surprise, everyone seems to be doing. At home, my mother is cooking one dish, my sister is cooking another, and I am baking something else. This can be the opportunity for you to try out new and complicated recipes and master the skills of baking and cooking. The one thing I love about cooking or baking, is the sense of accomplishment and fulfillment you feel after you’ve successfully made a delicious meal or desert.

5 Pick up a new artistic skill.

Lastly, try to pick up a new artistic skill such as sketching, painting, calligraphy or photography. When was the last time you just sat down in front of a blank paper, and let loose, drew whatever you wanted, not caring about anything, just expressing your emotions or thoughts through art. With all this free time, we might as well pick up a new skill, that you don’t need to master, but simply just to experiment with. You can begin with painting scenery, sketching still life, trying out calligraphy and taking photographs of object at home. Do something you’ve always wanted to do but never found the time, and who knows, one of these skills could develop into a hobby for you!
