Four Classic Movie Franchises We Love Binge-Watching

by Rimshah Kamran

How many of you are feeling overwhelmed with the current state of the world? It sounds like a good time to lock up electronics in a box and let a classic movie franchise transport you to another world.

It seems like the feeling of uncertainty will indefinitely continue to dominate this year. One way to appease a heavy heart and a frantic mind is by going back in time to the classic films. Movies that widened our eyes with wonder and had us sitting at the edge of the seat with anticipation.

Anaconda
As if snakes don’t make us shriek in fear enough! The film Anaconda amplified our fears of slithering beings with its four instalments. The first film was released in 1997, in which a ‘National Geographic’ film crew travels to the Amazon rainforest in search of a lost civilization. They not only encounter extremely long snakes and dangerous species of insects but also face the evil intentions of one of the fellas on the boat.

So, who would like to travel to the Amazon jungle with Jennifer Aniston as Terri Flores; Ice Cube as Danny Rich; Jon Voight as Paul Serone; and Owen Wilson as Gary Dixon, etc?

The Mummy (Trilogy)
How many of you remember this film featuring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah? The Mummy is a horror-adventure franchise with three instalments under its wing. The first two movies centre around four characters: High Priest Imhotep, who is accidentally resurrected; Anck-Su-Namun, the mistress of Pharaoh; Evelyn, the aspiring Egyptologist; Jonathan, the clever brother of Evelyn; and Rick O’Connell, an adventurer.

So, refresh your memory of the riveting plot: mummification, flesh-eating scarab beetles, startling sandstorms, and the Scorpion King. Did you know that the third instalment has a different storyline? It is situated in China, featuring dragons and a curse of an emperor.

Men in Black

A franchise that takes villains to another level, specifically the Milky Way Galaxy level. The science fiction film follows MIB agents, Agent J and Agent K policing and monitoring alien activity on earth. The four instalments feature action, alien humour, and intergalactic villains, etc. The first three movie leads are Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The latest one stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.

Final Destination
This franchise is composed of five films — each film begins with a group of people situated in the immediate vicinity. One of the individuals has a sudden premonition of a mass-casualty accident. When the person comes out of the nightmare, they start to persuade people to move and warn them about the deadly disaster in a panic state. After the accident takes place, the survivors begin to die one-by-one in a gruesome way.

Although the plot is similar in each film, the anticipation of who will die next and how, keeps you completely engrossed in the movie.
