Best And Worst Foods For Bloating

by Nashmia Amir Butt

This lockdown has us all feeling a bit unfit, even though some of us are managing to work out and get our daily dose of exercise in, we do feel a bit bloated - around the waist mostly! Grazia Pakistan has compiled a list of foods you should try and avoid in order to get rid of bloating and some foods that you must have in order to keep yourself fit!

Foods That Cause Bloating

1. Carbonated drinks
Fizzy drinks are a NO NO! Try and stick to water with lemon squeezed in order to add some flavour and it keeps you hydrated and makes your skin clear up too!

2. Chewing gum
I know right, who would have thought this would lead to bloating? but swallowing air while chewing also may lead to bloating and gas pain!

3. Too much salt
An excess of sodium in our body causes the body to retain a lot of water. This in turn causes a swollen and bloated feeling in the belly and other areas of the body, such as the hands and feet.

4. Check what dairy does to you!
Try and see if you feel gassy after a bowl of cereal with milk or when you have a few slices of cheese – if you do then that means you may be lactose intolerant which is making you gassy.

5. Legumes
Beans along with lentils and pease are gassy foods try and avoid them for now.

Foods That Relieve Bloating

1. Cucumber
I can not emphasise enough on the benefits of cucumber. People use it to reduce pufft eyes, mix it in your water bottle and you’ll feel super refreshed and hydrated. It also helps in reducing all that bloating in your body!

2. Fennel seeds
They are fantastic for our digestive tracks. You can mix these seeds up with water and make fennel tea or chew on them directly after a meal.

3. Grainy bread
Whole-grain bread is packed with the fiber our body needs and also avoids bloating our body!

4. Oatmeal
Fiber, fiber, fiber! It helps you stay full and doesnt bloat your body

5. Green tea
Make it a habit, have some green tea after a meal. It is best known for its anti-flammatory properties!
