70s horror classic The Exorcist set for a 2021 reboot

The power of Christ compels you! The legendary priest is back as, The Exorcist, is being rebooted for the big screen and is scheduled to hit the theaters next year.

Pazuzu (the demon) is back to haunt our lives again, as the Exorcist is set to make a comeback. Morgan Creek Entertainment is said to be working on the classic horror franchise and is set to hit the theaters in 2021. Fingers crossed! Because we don`t know whether this reboot is a worthy descendant to the OG 1973 cinematic classic.

Let`s roll back a multitude of years and remind ourselves that the Exorcist was based on William Peter Blatty’s book of the same name; it was inspired by an account of a real-life exorcism. The story revolved around a young girl named Regan (Linda Blair) who begins acting peculiar. Her concerned mother (Ellen Burstyn) seeks medical help and finds nothing unusual. A local priest (Jason Miller) thinks the girl may be possessed by the devil. The priest makes a plea to perform an exorcism, with the church sending a professional (Max von Sydow) to help with the challenging job.
With a universal gross of over $440 million, it was pure cinematic terror. After the record-breaking first film, there was Exorcist II: The Heretic in 1977, The Exorcist III in 1990, and Exorcist: The Beginning in 2004, and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist in 2005.

The fact that this new movie is being pinned as a “reboot” and not a remake suggests that it is in sync with the original film. However, for now, the details remain scarce. There is no news on who may be directing this project, nor is it clear who will be casted. The news was briefly mentioned in a report highlighting a new series Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz that the studio is occupied with. Till then let’s revive our memories with the 1973 exorcist movie trailer!
