5 Next-Gen Models That Are Here To Stay

by Saad Sarosh

Whether it is striking poses or strutting down the runway, a few models in the past year have brought with them a brand new energy and are letting people know that they are here for the long run.

Every few months we see a couple of new faces in a campaign, editorial or on the runway but only a few of them actually have what makes for a top model. Being a model although seems easy to those who aspire to become one but deep down it’s a gruelling business and only those stick around who offer uniqueness and variety.
Listed below are the five models that without a doubt are a few faces everyone should be watching out for in the fashion industry.

Sachal Afzal
Leading the list is definitely Sachal Afzal who turned heads at the PFDC fashion week last summer with his strong runway presence and chiselled features.

The model has been experimenting with his portfolio and looks, whether he’s seen with his long loose hair or tying them up in a sleek manbun, Sachal is surely one of the most exciting new faces in fashion. He has also got some impressive shoots to his name such as the recent 9lines and Ismail Farid campaigns while his ramp walk at the last edition of Fashion Pakistan Week was highly impressive.

Being groomed by ace stylist and image consultant Tabesh Khoja who is known for mentoring several of the current top models, Sachal is certainly on his way to becoming one of fashion’s most sought after faces as we can already see that from his recent makeover.

Nimra Jaqob
Nimra has got the fashion world buzzing after featuring in a number of campaigns for leading fashion houses like Misha Lakhani, Sapphire and Gul Ahmed among others.

Her luscious curly hair and piercing features have made her muse of many renowned photographers like Rizwan Ul Haq, Fayyaz Ahmed and ad film maverick Asad ul Haq. The dusky diva who also bears a resemblance with Indian supermodel Indrani Dasgupta, is already giving models a run for their money with her strong portfolio and very fashionable personal style.

Nimra has also got quite a few interesting photoshoots to her credit including a high-fashion editorial alongside supermodel Hasnain Lehri shot by Rizwanul Haq. Her scintillating chemistry with her fellow model and the camera is hard to miss. With her gorgeous face and a subtle rawness, Nimra is definitely one of the faces to watch out for in the coming days.

Aqsa Shah
If yesteryear supermodels the late Gia Carangi and Cindy Crawford ever had a daughter together, she would certainly look like the pretty and petite Aqsa Shah.

The young and vibrant model that has a face carved like art was first noticed in campaigns for brands likes 9Lines, The Sassy Store and Ethnic. Her ability to go from high-fashion to a Renaissance era village girl was particularly praised; while she then took a break only to come back stronger.

From working every fashion show last year to some of the most exciting campaigns for a host of major brands such as the likes of Gul Ahmed, Republic, Layla Chatoor, and Outfitters, Aqsa has built an impressive portfolio in a short span of time while also bagging a higher number of jobs than some of her contemporaries.
Aqsa who was introduced to the modelling industry by the very popular Tabesh Khoja has already become an industry favourite and it will be interesting to see what she has got in store for the upcoming season, maybe some high-fashion editorials!!

Maha Tahirani
With her unconventional features and sable coloured complexion, Maha has been making waves in the fashion industry bagging one leading brand after the other.

She’s been the favourite of top fashion houses like Sana Safinaz, HSY and AlKaram while she has also worked the runway for a number of designers.  Maha’s gorgeous sun-kissed skin and smirking eyes set her apart from her fellow models in a shot and interestingly she was first discovered by Khoji who encouraged her to try her luck in the industry

Her personal style which usually is a mix of streetstyle and laidback that the model makes look uber stylish given her connate sex appeal, she shows that she can look fierce even when not in front of a camera. The model was recently spotted showcasing a few pieces by Sana Safinaz at the first ever Virtual Fashion Week and impressed with her walk and posture even when not being on an actual ramp but on the roof a house.

Arsalan Ihsan
Arsalan’s lean and well-sculpted physique and a chiselled facial structure make him one of the very few who look like an international male model in Pakistan.

An Oxford grad, Arsalan beats the notion of models not being ‘smart enough’ while his very chic personal style makes him look like an absolute stud. With his slim and lean structure, he has worked with many high-street fashion brands like Outfitters, Chapter 2, Manstream and Mohataram and has also walked the runway for several top designers.

He also boasts an extraordinary portfolio comprising high-fashion editorials where he plays around with different poses and postures, contorting his body and showing variation.
