5 Homemade Drinks to Beat the Summer Heat

It is important to stay hydrated and fresh in the summer specially since Ramadan is right around the corner. Here is a list of 5 drinks you can make under 5 minutes at home.

Mango Lassi

Ingredients
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup chopped ripe mango
1/2 cup of milk
4 teaspoons of honey/sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
Ice cubes 
Method
Blend the yogurt, mango, milk, honey/sugar and cardamom for 2 minutes.
Garnish the Lassi with nuts and cardamom.
Serve chilled with ice cubes.

Cold Coffee with Ice Cream

Ingredients
1.5 tablespoons instant coffee
1/4 cup warm water
4 tablespoon sugar
2.5 cup chilled milk
2 vanilla ice cream scoops for the coffee
3 vanilla ice cream scoops for topping
Ice cubes
Method
In a small bowl add instant coffee and warm water.
Mix and pour this mixture in a blender.
Add sugar, ice cubes, 2 vanilla ice cream scoops, chilled milk and blend.
Pour cold coffee in glasses.
Add ice cream scoops and serve.

Mint Lemonade

Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1.75 cups water
1 cup fresh lemon juice
1 cup fresh mint leaves
6 mint sprigs for garnish (optional)
Ice cubes
Method
Combine water and sugar in a saucepan and heat over
medium heat, till the sugar dissolves.
Blend the sugar water, fresh lemon juice, fresh mint leaves, water and ice cubes
in a blender for 2 minutes.
Pour into glasses garnish with sprigs of mint and serve.

Almond Shake

Ingredients
2 glasses of milk
10-15 almonds
2 tablespoons of sugar/4 tablespoons of condensed milk
2 cardamoms powdered
3-4 saffron strands mix them with 2 tablespoon milk
Ice cubes
Method
Make an almond paste, by blending almonds (after soaking them in water overnight)
and 1 tablespoon of milk.
Boil milk in a saucepan, add almond paste and cook for ten minutes on low flame.
Add sugar/condensed milk, cardamom powder and Saffron strands infused
milk into the almond milk and mix well.
Chill the almond shake for some time in the refrigerator.
Garnish with finely chopped almonds and saffron.
Serve chilled with ice cubes.

Lemon and Ginger Iced Tea

Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup of granulated sugar
2/3 cup honey
3 inch fresh ginger
4 lemons
6 cups water
6 green tea bags
Method
In a saucepan heat water, sugar and honey and allow it to simmer.
Remove from heat and add ginger, lemon juice and lemon peel.
Let the syrup cool completely and strain.
For tea, boil water and let tea bags steep for 5 minutes.
Let the tea cool and refrigerate it.
Add syrup to tea and serve with ice.
