by Pakhi Rajesh Kumar Dixit

Summer is a season where one is to travel lightly with flip flops, light sandals and not tight shoes that cram in one's feet in a box. But other than travelling light, it becomes increasingly important to take care of your feet because you would not want to bear the pain of cracked heels and peeling skin at this time of the year.

We do not usually pay much attention to our feet, keeping aside occasional pedicure sessions, which have become a near impossibility given the current situation, therefore here are 5 super easy DIY foot scrubs for you to make which will make your feet summer ready.

Milk and Sugar
Milk is rich in lactic acid, which helps break down dead skin cells so they can be easily removed due to sugar’s exfoliating properties for the underneath baby skin to reveal itself. Sugar, other than being a natural exfoliant, always removes impurities from the pores and gives a very smooth skin.

How to use:

  1. Mix a small cup of milk with 3 tablespoons of sugar so that sugar soaks in all the milk.
  2. Massage this paste gently on areas which are chapped or are over dry and flaky for a minute or two.
  3. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Wash with cold water and apply a foot cream if you want.

Oatmeal
Oatmeal is that one product which makes you healthy when consumed and brings out your beauty when applied. Because of its coarse nature, it acts as a wonderful exfoliant. It gets rid of dead skin very effectively and a foot scrub made from it can be specifically used by people who suffer from itchy and excessively flaky skin.

How to use:

  1. Mix 2 teaspoons of oatmeal, 1 teaspoon of rose water and enough water to make a thick paste of good consistency.
  2. Massage your feet with this paste for 10 minutes and let it sit for a few more.
  3. Wash it off with cold water.
  4. Apply your daily moisturizer or any petroleum jelly.

Epsom Salt and Coconut Oil
Epsom salt is known for its purifying properties. And its combination with coconut oil works wonders for the ones with dry and cracked heels. It is a mild exfoliator and coconut oil is nature’s nourisher – works great for scrubbing and healing all at the same time.

How to use:

  1. Mix a small bowl of salt, 4 tablespoons of coconut oil and a few drops of almond or jojoba oil.
  2. Massage it slowly on the affected areas and in circular motions for 10 minutes.
  3. Let it sit for a few minutes.
  4. Wash it off with cold water.

You do not need to apply moisturizer after using this scrub unless you feel like. Fun fact: This scrub also improves blood circulation.

Aloe Vera and Honey
Aloe Vera cures all skin problems as it is both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It increases skin’s natural healing ability. When used with honey, skin gets moisturised as well.

How to use:

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel and 1 tablespoon of honey to a consistent mixture.
  2. You can also add 2 drops of almond oil to this mixture as it is rich in vitamin E which accelerates restoration of chapped skin.
  3. Apply this paste on your feet and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water.

You can use it when you have a long day out in the sun. This will keep your feet naturally cool.
