Why CEO, Alex Rebeiz Wants You in a Chamber at Rebase?

by Grazia

Few people walk back from the edge of life with a mission as clear as Alex Rebeiz. After surviving a near-death experience that brought everything into question, the Rebase co-founder emerged with a new obsession: to understand what it truly means to be well. Sitting down and in conversation with Grazia’s International Beauty Editor, Kaniz Ali, Alex’s energy is electric—equal parts gratitude, grit, and grounded expertise. “Rebase wasn’t a business idea—it was survival,” he shares. His healing journey took him across the globe, from ice baths in the Arctic to breathwork in India, gathering tools from ancient cultures and pairing them with modern science. The result? Rebase: a lifestyle hub where wellness becomes social, personal, and powerfully transformative.

Kaniz: Talk to us about the Hyperbaric Oxygen at Rebase?
Alex:
At Rebase, we encourage a holistic approach to wellness that bridges a variety of treatments, therapies, and modalities. Drawing on the latest in cutting-edge sci- ence and a breadth of ancient practices, our philosophy is that a conscious lifestyle built around quiet moments of self-care, detoxification, and social interaction can significantly improve quality of life.

One of the cornerstones of our offering is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. This technol- ogy, originally pioneered in the treatment of crush injuries involving massive inflam- mation, has been embraced by both the medical and health optimization communi- ties as a systemic approach to increasing the body’s healing capacity.

A hyperbaric session consists of one hour inside our HBOT chamber (HBOT is used interchangeably to refer to both the therapy and the chamber itself). During the session, the chamber is pressurized up to a threshold of 2 ATA (twice atmospheric pressure), and customers breathe con- centrated oxygen intermittently through a mask before the chamber is depres- surized and the session ends. At normal atmospheric pressure, the body can only absorb a limited amount of oxygen into the bloodstream. Under increased pressure, however, this threshold is elevated, allowing the body to absorb more oxygen into the bloodstream.

Kaniz: Why is this important?
Alex:
We all know we need oxygen to sur- vive, but oxygen has a profound and wide- ranging influence throughout the body. It is essential to most of the fundamental processes that keep us alive and healthy. We use oxygen to produce energy via ATP; it is crucial for cell repair and maintenance, and it is naturally antimicrobial and antifun- gal—helping us fight infections and disease. At Rebase, we believe wellness should be as social as it is personal. That’s why our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) chamber is designed to accommodate up to four people at a time—transforming what is often a solitary treatment into a shared experience. Whether you book alone or with friends, the cost remains the same, making a fully booked session the most affordable way to experience hyperbaric
in London. This communal approach aligns with our philosophy that human connection is an essential pillar of wellbeing, just as vital as movement, nutrition, and recovery.

Kaniz: What to expect during your session?

Alex: Stepping into the HBOT chamber, you’ll notice a comfortable, spacious envi- ronment—not unlike the interior of a small aircraft. As the session begins, the chamber is gradually pressurized up to 2 ATA (twice normal atmospheric pressure). This change in pressure is similar to the sensation of taking off in a plane, and just like during a flight, you may need to equalize your ears by swallow- ing or yawning to stay comfortable—only without the need to strap in or lower your armrests for takeoff and landing! Most peo- ple find the process gentle and even relaxing. Once at full pressure, you’ll breathe concen- trated oxygen through a mask intermittently, giving your body the chance to deeply oxy- genate at a level not possible under normal conditions.

Over the course of an hour, this influx of oxygen helps accelerate tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and promote cellular renewal. Then, as the session comes to a close, the chamber is slowly depressurized—again, a sensation similar to landing after a flight.

Kaniz: Talk to us about the holistic approach to health?
Alex:
At Rebase, we see HBOT as a powerful tool—but like any therapy, it works best as part of a broader lifestyle of conscious health optimization. When combined with regular exercise, a nutrient-dense diet, and other regenerative practices, hyperbaric therapy can help unlock the body’s full potential. The increased oxygen uptake supports endurance and recovery, making it an excellent addi- tion for athletes seeking improved perfor- mance. It also complements detoxification protocols, enhances immune function, and aids cognitive clarity—benefits that anyone, from biohackers to busy professionals, can appreciate.

By integrating Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy into a routine of movement, mindful nutri- tion, and self-care, you’re not just treating symptoms or chasing short-term boosts. You’re investing in long-term resilience, deeper vitality, and a body better equipped to handle the demands of modern life. At Rebase, we invite you to step inside, breathe deeply, and experience what optimized health truly feels like.
