The Ultimate Morning Skincare Routine

by Maham Asif

Here is the ultimate 10-minute morning skincare routine you can add to your beauty regime to achieve smooth and radiant skin.

Clean with Cleanser

Start your morning skincare routine by cleaning your face with a cleanser to gently remove the nighttime bacteria and dirt to help prevent clogged pores, dullness and acne.
Take two pumps of cleanser in your hand and rub it gently between your hands to warm it and mix it together. Massage it into your face and down your neck, then take a minute to work in the product and stimulate circulation. Rinse with lukewarm water and leave skin damp.
Cleanser for each skin type:
Oily or Acne Prone Skin: Foaming Liquid cleanser
Dry or Eczema Prone Skin: Cream or Lotion cleanser
Sensitive Skin: Oil-based cleanser
Mature Skin: Melting Balm cleanser
Any Skin Type: Micellar water

Balance with Toner

Toner helps remove the dirt and oil left behind by the cleanser, shrinks pores, balances PH levels and helps the other products in your regimen absorb better.
Apply toner onto a cotton pad and gently press it over your face and neck. Do not scrub or rub aggressively.
To prevent your skin from drying out, make sure you choose a toner which is alcohol-free. Here are some essential toner ingredients for each skin type:
Oily Skin: Bentonite Clay or Witch Hazel
Acne-Prone Skin: Salicylic Acid
Dry Skin: Glycerin or Essential Oils
Sensitive Skin: Algae or Amino Acids
Mature Skin: Aloe Vera or Vitamin C
Combination Skin: Lactic Acid
Normal Skin: Coenzyme Q10 or Hyaluronic Acid

Treat with Serum

Serums are filled with the highest concentration of active ingredients that penetrate the skin to achieve deeper level of moisturizer, help get rid of dark spots and prevent wrinkles.
Take a few drops of the serum in your hands and rub it gently between your hands to warm it and mix it together. Press it onto your face (do not rub), to ensure that all beneficial ingredients sink into the skin. Wait three to five minutes for the serum to fully absorb, then move on to the next step.
Here are the benefits of some vital serum ingredients:
Hyaluronic Acid: hydrates skin and prevents moisture loss.
Vitamin E and C: brightens dull skin and decreases dark spots.
Retinol, Vitamin B3, Peptides: stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, that help prevent lines and saggy skin.
Colloidal sulfur, Niacinamide: calms redness and irritation by decreasing inflammation and reduces acne with its antimicrobial effects.

Hydrate with Moisturizer

Moisturizers hydrate and soften the skin, as well as prevents water loss through the outer layers of skin. They also complement the naturally found protective oils and other building blocks within the skin.
Apply moisturizer and smoothly pat it across your face, neck and chest. Pat it (do not rub) around the delicate skin of your eyes and massage it into your skin till the moisturizer is well absorbed.
Moisturizers for each skin type:
Oily skin: Gel moisturizer
Dry skin: Cream moisturizer
Inflamed and sensitive skin: Balm moisturizer
Normal or combination skin: Lotion moisturizer

Protect with Sunscreen

Daily and consistent sunscreen use helps prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles, textural imperfections, and changes in the appearance of pores. Always apply sunscreen as even a little sun exposure can be detrimental for the skin. It is recommended to use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
Press a quarter-sized amount onto your face, and an additional quarter-sized amount onto your neck. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours.
Sunscreens for each skin type:
Oily skin: Gel or Lighter Lotion sunscreen
Acne-prone skin: Light Moisturizer with sunscreen
Dry skin: Moisturizers that contain sunscreen
Mature skin: Cream-based sunscreen
Combination skin: Serum and Gel sunscreen
Normal skin: Lotion sunscreen
