The Ultimate Guide to Fighting Social Distancing!

by Amber Mayté Villarreal

Quarantine has left many of us feeling completely unmotivated and set back from new beginnings. As many of you can relate, it’s not the best feeling in the world. It is so easy to get carried away by reading into the rapidly spread news that is arising and unprecedented changes disrupting our daily routine. With that being said, we tend to forget to care for ourselves first. During times like these it’s important to keep ourselves productive and hopeful. You may feel like you’re at your all time low right now too, and it’s totally okay. This is a time to grow and change your life for the better. Here are a few ways to get rid of the Social Distancing Blues and get your life back on track!

LOG OFF!

Yes, you read that right… take some time for yourself. Whether it be an hour or an entire day. Take a walk, play some board games, try something you’ve never done before!  When you distance yourself from social media, you allow yourself to see the beauty of life itself. It’s okay to take a step back and live life in the moment. Sometimes it’s the constant act of tweeting, snapping or liking posts that makes us feel self conscious and insusceptible to what’s actually going on in the world. Take the time to be grateful and enjoy the life you get to live!

TAKE UP A NEW HOBBY

When’s the last time you tried something new? Don’t be afraid to dabble in something that is completely out of your comfort zone. Look up yoga videos on YouTube and follow along. Practice singing! Try to become Tik Tok famous. Take on painting! The ideas are endless. You might not be the best at all of them, but at least you can say you tried. There’s no way you can be bored at home, you have to be creative and search for activities that will keep you going! Finding new hobbies are by far the most fun way to keep your mind busy and active. Be open to trying new things, you never know what you might fall in love with.

SAY FAREWELL TO YOUR INSOMINIA!

It’s safe to say that this quarantine has completely ruined most of our sleep schedules for the worst. No. Going to sleep at 4 a.m. and waking up at 3 p.m. is not normal. How are you supposed to feel productive and content with your life when your day is completely delayed. Starting your day early gives you something to look forward to. When you get enough rest you feel full of life and happier living it. Fix your sleep schedule and the rest of your life will begin to fall in line, it’s a huge start.
If you don’t know HOW to fix it, here are some tips…

  • Wake up at the same time each day. Keep yourself occupied until the night to come, then fall asleep at a decent hour (preferably anytime before 12 a.m.).
  • Limit naps.
  • Rid your body of alcohol or any stimulants such as caffeine or nicotine. These substances stay in your body for long periods of time and will keep you awake longer than needed.

GET READY FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON

One of the biggest forms of self care. Do your makeup, fix your hair. Take millions of selfies. “Fresh photos with the bomb lighting”, as Lizzo says it. When you look good, you feel good. When you’re getting ready, listening to your favorite music, there is really not any other care in the world. This you YOU time. Don’t let anyone take your shine away from you! Not only does getting dolled up make you feel great, it also helps keep you sane. How do you feel wearing sweatpants all day, everyday for the next few months? When you feel put-together, your life seems to flow much easier. You feel invincible, and are suddenly ready for whatever life throws your way.

START INVESTING IN YOUR FUTURE

To feel better about what’s to come after quarantine, it is crucial to begin researching to better your future! I know for myself, the one thing that has brought me down is not knowing what’s to come. Take matters into your own hands and create a set plan for yourself. These days, you can find just about everything through social media. Reach out to companies and ask for any online programs being offered, such as jobs for hire or internships! Technology allows us to adapt to our current situation easily, which is why many businesses are starting to work entirely from home. Taking even just one hour of your day to set a plan or create goals for yourself will boost your self esteem and mindset in so many ways.
