Summer Trends: an Update for the Clueless

by Rimshah Kamran

2020, a year where most of us disregarded fashion trends for comfortable at-home clothes. Alas, the time has come to reacquaint with the fancier side of our wardrobe. Perhaps, even spice it up with a few summer trendy pieces.

The look of the year was and for some still is lounging in at-home casual attires, with a ‘don’t care how I look attitude.’ However, events, inevitably, are starting to pop up; and some of you might be scratching your head about what fashion trends are currently making the round.

So, grab a notepad and a pen because it is time to spruce up your wardrobe with the following five summer trends:

Drawstrings

Are you not quite ready to part ways with loungewear? Well, the drawstring trend is here to rescue those of you, who are not yet ready to bring their style A-game to the streets. As well, if your style is sporty and casual, you might like this trend.

The drawstring creates a nice ruching detail in the area of placement. You can find this trend cropping the hem of shirts, cinching at the waist of trenchcoats and dresses, and doing what is meant to — tightening the bottoms at the waist.

Highlighter Colours
Warning: we are entering the neon territory of pink, blue, green, and yellow because what is summer without vibrant, bright colours?

You can subtly style this trend with neutral colours or stand out by wearing two different neon colours together, such as green and pink or pink and orange.

Sheer Overlays
Layering in summer! Hear me out ladies, jazz up your style with sheer overlays. The fabric is light and easy to breathe in. It is a versatile piece, which fits various personal styles. As well, it is a simple way to add more character to the otherwise one layer summer outfit.

Prints
The Spring/Summer 2020 runways have not seen a shortage of prints, specifically florals and polka dots. While Mark Jacobs captures striking hues and polka dots in a power suit, Erdem features a floral print on print look. As well, Christopher John Rogers takes a unique route with a split print look.

Puff Sleeves
Puff sleeves are a subtle but not too subtle way of adding an interesting element to your look. You can go for over the top, extravagant puff sleeves making them the statement piece of your look or choose a subdued version that adds a cute detail to the article of clothing.
