Make Scrumptious Chicken Shawarmas At Home

Who doesn't love chicken shawarmas? We have got you all sorted. Here's a delicious recipe that you can try out at home for Iftar - do tell us how it turned out!

INGREDIENTS
For the Chicken
8 Boneless chicken thighs (skinless)
1/2 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon ground cumin 
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Juice of 1 lemon 
3 cloves garlic, minced
salt and pepper to taste
1 large onion, thinly sliced

For the Sauce
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
salt to taste
Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

For Serving
8 Pita bread rounds
4 medium tomatoes, sliced
1 medium onion, sliced
4 cups lettuce, shredded
2 cucumbers 

METHOD
For the Chicken
In a bowl, mix together vinegar, vegetable oil, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, lemon juice and garlic. Add in the chicken and coat it with mixture. Cover and refrigerate it for 3 hours or overnight.
Add onion to marinade and coat it with the mixture again. Preheat oven to 425° and grease a large baking sheet with oil. Remove the chicken and onion from marinade and place them on the prepared baking sheet. 
Bake for 30 minutes, until chicken is cooked and turns golden. Lay the chicken on the baking dish for 5 minutes, then cut thin slices. 

For the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic and parsley. Season with salt and red pepper flakes. 

For Serving
Warm the pita breads and top them with chicken, sauce, tomatoes, onion, lettuce and cucumber.
