Ayesha Omar and Rose McGowan klatch virtually over Instagram Live and discuss their battles of sexual assault and the social horrors that tag along.
The actor and director Rose McGowan who opened up about her sexual assault in 2017 has been a prominent advocate of the movement that has encouraged thousands of women to come forward with their own stories of facing sexual assault by men in influential positions.
The producer plus director wears her pain on her sleeve in the live video with Pakistani actorAyesha Omar.
She said: “I always had a voice, just no one was listening.”
She further went on by saying:
“I was waiting for society to be ready. I needed Trump. Hilary Clinton protected Weinstein in a major way. I needed Trump to show people this is racism, sexism, and this is what ugliness really looks like.”
She told her about how she dealt with the post-assault trauma when she had none next to kin by saying:
“I didn’t have friends. No women’s groups to help me, nothing.”
Rose specified how it was not her who carried the weight of shame but her harasser.
Ayesha talked about how she feels that the blame weight is usually put on women by saying:
“We are not allowed to be angry.”
Ayesha chipped in with her story of assault right when she entered the industry at the age of 23.
She opened up saying:
“A huge powerful man, twice my age. I had just entered the industry. I was this young 23-year-old, fresh out of college, and bam, this started happening. And it went on for years.”
“It wasn’t a one-off incident, and I just didn’t want to process it. I put in a box, and I said okay, this is happening in my life. I have to deal with it. I didn’t wanna share it with anybody. I let it stay there for 15 years, and I finally spoke about it to someone two years ago”.
She talked how another friend of her came up with a similar story. And Ayesha was interrogated by TV channels to confirm the story. To which she replied: “I would believe any victim”
She supported her argument by telling the TV channels by saying: “They asked me if sexual harassment happens in the industry and that’s first time I said yes. They asked me if it happened to you, and I said yes. I will talk about it someday, but not today. I still haven’t named my monster but I’ve started talking about it”.
Both Rose and Ayesha ended the Live almost sixty minutes later by pouring in their experiences and views.
