4 Easy Kitchen Hacks To Whiten Your Teeth!

by Pakhi Rajesh Kumar Dixit

Teeth change colour gradually, too subtle to quickly comprehend. Nevertheless, facing the tyranny of yellow teeth at least once in your lifetime is inevitable. They become more yellow or turn pale as you age because the enamel wears off, and the yellow dentin underneath becomes visible. Other factors such as food stains or plaque build-up on your teeth can cause them to look dull and lose their white sparkle.

If you are sceptical or do not have time to follow the conventional teeth whitening measures, you can go on these 4 alternate routes:

Coconut Oil Pulling

It removes plaque and bacteria from the mouth, which helps to whiten teeth. Buy pure organic oil without any added ingredients.

How to use:

  • After brushing, swish 1 to 2 tsp of liquid coconut oil in your mouth for 10 to 30 minutes
  • Rinse your mouth with water and then brush your teeth again
  • Avoid letting the oil go to the back of your throat. Also, do not swallow it as it may contain bacteria from your mouth

Baking Soda Paste

It  has natural whitening properties, which is why it is commonly found in commercial toothpastes. Because it is mildly abrasive, it scrubs away surface stains on teeth usually caused due to tea or coffee consumption.
Additionally, baking soda creates an alkaline environment in your mouth, which prevents bacteria and keeps away plaque.

How to use:

  • Mix 1 tsp baking soda with 2 tsp  water  and brush your teeth with the paste. You can do this a few times every week to see noticeable difference
  • Avoid overusing baking soda because its excessive use wears off the enamel and make teeth weak

Fruit Peels

Rubbing lemon, orange, or banana peels on your teeth make them whiter and shinier. A compound called d-imonene along with citric acid, found in citrus fruit peels, whiten your teeth and remove teeth stains from over consumption of tea. Tangerine peel extract gives the best results.

How to use:

  • Gently rub the fruit peels on your teeth for about 2 minutes. Make sure to thoroughly rinse your mouth and brush your teeth afterwards. Do it 2
  • times a week
  • Do not overdo this method because citric acid can erode your enamel. Stop if you notice that your teeth are becoming sensitive

Milk Powder and Toothpaste

It is high in Calcium which is nature’s whitener. Combining milk powder and toothpaste, brings along the safest teeth whitener to try out for white and glossy teeth.

How to use:

  • Add a little bit of powdered milk to your toothpaste. Brush your teeth gently for 2 minutes and wash your mouth with water
  • Do this twice a day for best results and for the optimum maintenance of your glossy teeth
