Grazia’s International Beauty Editor KANIZ ALI’S Favourite Treatment Of The Season

by Kaniz Ali

Right, let’s talk skin the way we’d discuss it over coffee before a shoot. After years of sitting in labs with dermatologists, grilling formulators on percentages and actives, watching product after product come and go, I’ve landed on the six I absolutely adore from the brand. The ones that earned their spot on my shelf and I refuse to give it up.

Dermatological science, turned into a daily habit that actually delivers. Real results, no fluff, no filler. Here’s the line-up.

The Holy Grail: Obagi Hydra-Drops Face Serum

My favourite. Full stop. I absolutely adore!

The yellow bottle. You’ll know it the second you see it on my vanity  it’s the permanent fixture, the one that never gets swapped out no matter what else comes and goes around it. This is the serum I credit for the “what have you done to your skin” comments  the ones where I just smile and say nothing, because the answer is simply this bottle, morning and night, without fail.

Once you’ve used this serum there’s no going back to anything less. I’ve tried plenty of hydrating serums that promise the same thing and quietly underdeliver by mid-afternoon. This one doesn’t do that. It keeps working long after application, which is precisely why it’s earned cult status among the people I know who test everything.

It floods the skin with hydration that goes deep, not just a surface flash that fades by lunch. Think plumped, bouncy, lit-up skin the kind that makes foundation redundant.

How to use it:- Morning and night, every single day. Skip it and you’ll feel the difference by the next morning that’s how you know it’s earning its place.

Obagi Professional-C® Serum 20%

The vitamin C that actually does what it is supposed to do. Twenty percent concentration, proper clinical-grade formulation and the kind of tone-correcting, radiance-restoring finish that makes skin look sorted before you’ve even reached for concealer. This gets straight to work, brightening dullness, softening the appearance of dark spots, and giving the whole complexion a clarity that’s difficult to fake with makeup alone.

It also takes on pollution and blue light exposure  the invisible damage we clock up just by existing in a city with real authority. Skin exposed to that daily grind ages faster whether we notice it happening or not, and this serum acts almost like a shield against it, quietly doing its job underneath everything else layered on top.

How to use it:- Every morning, on freshly cleansed skin. Let it sink in fully before anything else goes on top.

Obagi Hydra-Drops Eye Serum

The eye area doesn’t lie, and this is the serum that keeps it in check. It targets puffiness, fatigue, and fine lines with precision, absorbs in seconds, and sits flawlessly under concealer no creasing, no settling into lines. By the end of a long day, it’s doing quiet, consistent damage control.

What I love most about this product is how fast it works without feeling like it’s rushing the job. On the mornings after four hours of sleep, when the under-eye area is doing absolutely nothing to help my cause, this is what brings it back from the brink. Fine lines look softer, puffiness calms down within minutes, and the whole area looks rested even when I very much am not. It layers beautifully under concealer too, which for anyone who’s dealt with a heavy eye cream pilling under makeup will know is not a small thing to get right.

How to use it:- Morning and night, patted in gently. Tap, never drag.

Obagi Sun Shield Mineral SPF 50

Mineral, weightless, invisible on skin tone, and hydrating enough to double as a genuine skincare step rather than an afterthought. This is the one non-negotiable across the whole line-up.

I’ve worn mineral formulas before that leave a chalky cast or sit heavy under makeup, and this simply doesn’t do that. It melts in, plays nicely under foundation, and gives the skin a soft, hydrated finish rather than the flat, powdery look so many SPFs leave behind. Fifty is a serious level of protection, and it’s applied here without any of the compromise that usually comes with mineral formulas. Given how much damage the sun does that we can’t see happening in real time, this is the product doing the most long-term work in the entire routine.

How to use it:- Final step, every morning. Reapply without excuses.

 Obagi Gentle Cleanser

The reset button. Strips away makeup, SPF, and the general debris of the day, and leaves skin balanced rather than stripped or tight. A proper cleanse changes everything that follows it, and this one does the job cleanly, every time.

There’s a real skill in formulating a cleanser that removes everything without leaving skin feeling squeaky or tight afterwards, and this one has clearly nailed it. It breaks down even the most stubborn, long-wear makeup and sunscreen without a second cleanse required, yet the skin still feels calm and comfortable once you’ve rinsed off. That balance matters more than people realise, because everything you apply after a cleanse works better on skin that hasn’t been stripped raw to get there.

How to use it:- Every evening, lukewarm water, no rushing.

Obagi Hydrate Moisturiser

The step that locks everything else in place. Builds a proper barrier, seats makeup beautifully and feels comfortable enough to wear round the clock. Skip it for a day and you’ll notice  which tells you everything about how hard it’s working.

The texture is rich enough to feel like it’s actually doing something, without ever tipping into greasy or heavy. It sinks in fully within minutes, leaving the skin soft and cushioned rather than sitting on top like a film. Underneath makeup it creates the smoothest possible base, the kind that stops product from clinging to dry patches or shifting by midday. And on the nights when the skin needs real recovery, it holds moisture in for hours, which is exactly what a proper barrier cream should be doing.

How to use it:- Morning and night, layered after serums.

Obagi built its name on results, and this season proves it all over again.
