Mehwish Hayat lambastes Indian media over malicious accusations

by Saad Sarosh

An Indian media platformhas accused the Pakistani actor of being in relationship with a mobster

While the Indian government has outright banned Pakistani talent from working in the country since the last three years it however seems like the media on the other side of the border just can’t get enough of our local stars.
Recently an Indian news portal DNA in what it claims to be a massive expose has accused Pakistani actor Mehwish Hayat of being in a relationship with the infamous Indian mobster Dawood Ibrahim. Dawood who is a notorious figure across both the countries has been on the run since many yearswith several criminal charges levelled against him.

While both the Indian government and media have repeatedly accused Pakistan of shielding the mobster, the claims of a Pakistani actor being romantically involved with him are straight ludicrous.
DNA has further claimed on its website that the underworld kingpin has played a massive role in the actor’s career growth.
“Mehwish had started her career with an item number and it is said that after this item number she grabbed the attention of Dawood Ibrahim. It is said that Mehwish later got opportunities to work in several big projects due to her closeness with an influential person from Karachi, who is no one but Dawood,” claims DNA further insisting that Dawood holds a strong influence over the local media industry.

While the allegations against the Actor-In-Law actor sound strange, the news portal has also stressed on her age a number of times within the article while some publications have even made headlines out of it. It’s not very clear what they are trying establish there.

While responding to the malicious accusations on Twitter, Mehwish said she knows exactly what the agenda behind this nefarious campaign is and she doesn’t wish to give credence to the unfounded accusations by issuing a statement.
The Tamgha-e-Imtiaz recipient in another tweet also stated that she would continue highlighting the Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and keep calling out Bollywood’s hypocrisy. In the same tweet Mehwish jibed that if she was to be linked with someone she’d prefer it to be the Titanic hearththrob Leonard DiCaprio.

However, the same Indian publication that has featured these bizarre allegations also lacks a sense of humour and has published an article with the title ‘Who Is Mehwish Hayat’s Dream Man’ after the actor’s DiCaprio tweet. “In this tweeter thread, Mehwish begged that her name be linked to Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio,” the article reads.
While Mehwish has refused to issue an official statement regarding the claims, it’s actually bewildering to see how the Indian media during a time when especially their own industry has been turned upside down following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput is resorting to defaming a Pakistani actor.
