Your Complete Skincare Guide to Get Through this Winter

by Anum Masood

With winters just around the corner, our skin will need all the love it can get. A good skincare routine is nothing less of a necessity now, especially if you want your skin to remain supple against the dry cold winds

Self-care has now become fundamentally important, and with more time on our hands, the skincare junkie in all of us has come out with full force. Just as we pack away our summer clothes, ready to dive into all the cozy and warm winter staples, our skincare regimen needs a similar “pick me up” to pack as much moisture into our routine to keep dull, lifeless skin away.

Cleanser

The importance of a good cleanser cannot be ignored, especially in the winter season, where you want to ensure that your skin is free from oil, dirt, and buildup, which may eventually lead to pesky black and whiteheads. Double cleansing has become a popular technique heavily inspired by the Korean skincare techniques, and this should be a habitual practice all year round. Primarily, cleansers can be found in different formulas suited to different skin types, and some of the most popular water and oil-based cleansers can be found by The Ordinary, The Inkey List, CeraVe, amongst others.

Serums

Serums have become a significant skincare step focused on targeting specific skincare issues. The winter season is bound to suck out the moisture from the skin, so it is essential to integrate an active ingredient to retain it. Hyaluronic acid is one such star ingredient, which is said to have 1000 times its weight in water, which acts as a barrier between the skin and the outside to lock in the skin’s moisture and reduce the appearance of dry, flaky skin, something we’ve all experienced at least once in our lives.

Moisturizer

If it isn’t apparent yet, moisture is vital for your skin during the winter season, and the moisturizer is an added step that helps the skin to become nourished and repaired, alongside reaping the benefits of healthy, glowing skin. Moisturizer is a must, twice a day, irrespective of the skin type. Opting for slightly thicker formulas can be beneficial this winter season, and some brands that make the cut are LaRoche Posay, Clinique, Neutrogena, amongst others.

SPF

SPF is undoubtedly the most crucial skincare step. If you want to tackle these winters head on, alongside avoiding premature-aging, sun spots amongst other issues, skipping SPF is not an option. Applying SPF generously all over the face and the neck, and reapply every two hours, irrespective of whether you’re inside or out, is a habit that we all should work towards this winter season, to enjoy healthy and nurtured skin, protected from both UVA and UVB rays.
