What Makes The Queen’s Gambit a Must-Watch

The new Netflix miniseries, starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead, puts a self-destructive female player at the center of a male-dominated sport, chess. But it is intriguing how the story encompasses its viewers, and that isn’t just why it was the most watched Netflix miniseries.

We rarely see a female protagonist making all the right moves and leaving a mark on the screens for us to ponder upon, and basically make us fall in love with chess. Netflix gave us some of the best series to date in this tragic year of 2020. The Queen’s Gambit something everyone should watch, revolving around the story of an orphan girl and her struggles in life and how she makes her way to become one of the finest and polished Chess players of the world.

Set in the 1950s and 60’s the series centers on the fictional character played by Ann Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon, an introvert genius chess player, who loses her mother at the tender age of 9, and ends up at an orphan age, surrounded by people who are anything but a family. Although amidst all the chaos, Beth Harmon find herself attracted to the most unusual game for a child, chess. And under the guidance of the caretaker of the orphanage, Beth Harmon master’s chess, the most intellectual games of all time.  Ann Taylor-Joy has done a wonderful job portraying the role of Beth Harmon, and for keeping us glued to our screens.
The series also identifies the life lessons given through the game of chess, focusing on the positive and negative impacts of how a person plays through a series of game. The direction of the series focuses on prodigies, people with a superhuman ability to play the game.

The series is full of drama, agonizing chess moves, nail biting scenarios, and breath-taking outfits, the cinematography transforms the viewer directly in to the era it is set in, with the show set being rich in detail and evoking the ambiance which is needed to transport one into the series. 
Queen’s Gambit will take you into the world of a young woman, her struggles with life, her addiction with alcohol, pill, and her determination to take over the challenge of defeating one of the world’s finest chess player, who also happens to be a Russian, and makes it her life goal.  
The series unfolds the creation of the difficult, pricky female protagonist, and how she becomes the world’s finest chess players. 
The Queen’s Gambit, should be on top of your Netflix series to watch list, because we are certain it will make you want to play a game of chess, regardless of whether you would lose or win, the experience would be worth it.
