Dry lips are very irritating and painful. This problem can be kept at a distance by hydrating and keeping them moisturised. One of the most common solutions people run to are lip balms but they do not provide a long-term remedy, especially if you are someone with dry lips year-round. Here are 5 easy to use remedies for long lasting healthy and beautiful lips. But do not forget to drink water. Nothing will work if you do not keep yourself hydrated enough.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer and an organic lubricant. They have healthy fatty acids that help hydrate and condition your lips to make them soft. Adding essential oils, such as tea tree oil to coconut oil speeds up the healing process in case dryness has led to cracks on your lips. Add any other carrier oil such as almond oil to coconut oil and apply this blend on your lips. Use it twice or thrice depending upon the cracks. Best results will be seen if left overnight.

Honey and Vaseline

Honey is antibacterial in nature and is probably one of the best natural healing agents. And Vaseline is used so often to soften and nourish the skin and prevent it from chapping. It helps in seal the moisture on the upper surface of the lips. Apply a layer of honey on your lips and then apply a layer of Vaseline on top of this. Leave this layered combination for 20-30 minutes and then wife it off with a damn cloth (soft) or a wet cotton ball. You can use it once everyday as a replacement to lip balms.

Rose Petals and Milk

Rich petals are natural sources of vitamin E. They therefore nourish your lips and help restore their natural colour. Milk contains lactic acid which exfoliates the dead skin from the surface of your lips. The fats present in the milk hydrate your lips and retain moisture for a long time. Soak a few rose petals in milk for 2-3 hours and then gently mash it into a paste like consistency. Apply the mixture on your lips and keep it for 5-10 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water. Do it everyday for a week or two and you will see your lips getting back to their natural colour.

Green Tea Bags

Green tea is rich source of ‘polyphenols’ that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and photoprotective effects on the skin. They are helpful in reducing the burning sensation, bleeding lips or pain on your chapped lips caused by dryness or picking. Dip a green tea bag in hot water for a few minutes and then place it on your lips for a few minutes. Do it once daily to see healing effects.

Sugar Scrub

Sugar granules being coarse in texture are excellent natural exfoliants for your chapped lips. Scrubbing sugar over your lips helps you get rid of the dry and flaky skin. Therefore, leaving your lips soft and cleansed. Add one teaspoon of sugar in a few drops of olive oil and some honey. Turn this into a mixture and scrub over your lips gently in circular motions. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Continue to do this once every week for smooth lips.
